Gary Harstein cree que hubo un error al trasladar al piloto primero al Hospital de Albertville-Moutiers para luego pasar a trasladarlo al Hospital de Grenoble, haciendo que se perdiese tiempo fundamental para la salud del piloto. “No coges a pacientes con una lesión en la cabeza si no tienes capacidades de neurocirugía”, declaraba el exjefe médico de la Fórmula 1 para el periódico The Sun.
También opina que puedo ser un error fatal el no trasladar al piloto a otro hospital cercano a su domicilio y con mejores equipaciones para tratar el estado de Schumacher. Asegura que esa opinión no pone en entredicho la cualificación del Hospital de Grenoble, solo que no para dichas lesiones cerebrales.
“A medida que pasa cada vez más tiempo, es probable que Schumacher pueda responder de manera significativa”, añadía en su propio blog. Por lo que cree que los fans deberían estar preparados para lo peor: “Supe desde siempre que Michael era muy querido. Pasé muchos años en circuitos empapados de rojo por las banderas y camisetas de Ferrari para animar a Michael. Aunque estaba preocupado por lo que va a pasar, me di cuenta que la falta de nuevas informaciones sobre el cuadro clínico de Michael puede ser una pista para empezar a comenzar a despedirnos de él. De alguna manera creo que los fans estarán bien porque lo estarán procesando todo”.
Harstein cree que es factible lo que ya se rumoreaba en su momento, la pérdida de peso del piloto del que se dice que pesaría 56 kilos: “Es totalmente factible y de hecho es posible”, debido a que el cuerpo sufre un gran estrés, no psicológico, pero sí físico por la cantidad de liberación de ciertas hormonas.
